Camp Tannadoonah is a traditional resident camp for boys and girls ages 6-16 located in Vandalia, MI (near South Bend, IN). Founded in 1921, Camp Tannadoonah boasts a rich tradition of camping in a beautiful, rustic setting on Birch Lake. We offer a variety of activities to appeal to all ages, including swimming, boating, sports camps, crafts, nature, photography, art, music, and science programs, water skiing, yoga, low ropes team building, guitar lessons, drama, dance, and more! Camp Tannadoonah offers 7 one-week sessions, a three-day session, and an 11-day session, plus a two- to four-week Counselor in Training (CIT) program. The 2017 camp season runs from June 18 to August 12. Camp Tannadoonah is accredited by the American Camping Association (ACA) and licensed by the State of Michigan. Amber Grundy is in her 12th year as camp director, and has a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology. Campers live in small groups in rustic cabins, with at least two college-age counselors in living in each cabin. Ratio of campers to counselors is 4:1 or better. Camp Fire also offers school-year programs for youth, and we are in the process of developing a new after school program to provide after school child care and enrichment for students in grades K through 6. Our Promise: Young people want to shape the world. Camp Fire provides the opportunity to find their spark, lift their voice, and discover who they are. In Camp Fire, it begins now. Light the Fire Within.
We plan to invest any funds raised through Give Local SJC in our building fund. This year we have 3 building projects: a new camper cabin, a welcome center at camp, and a restoration of Morris Lodge. Unless a donor has a particular request for the funds to go to a different project (e.g., camperships / scholarships, general fund), the Give Local donations will all be used towards these building projects.
Our endowed fund with the Community Foundation is used for camp scholarships (aka "camperships). Last year, over 90 campers (approximately 10% of our participants) received partial or full financial aid to attend camp. The Community Foundation Fund is used for campers from the South Bend Community School Corporation and Beardsley Elementary School in Elkhart.
