Life Treatment Centers is a not-for-profit organization that provides drug, alcohol, and gambling treatment to anyone in need of help. No one is turned down regardless of their ability to pay for services. Life Treatment Centers offers detoxification, residential living, continuing care, outpatient therapy, prevention and education, and specialized treatment sessions. In addition to our clients, Life Treatment Centers has a contract with the American Veterans Association to house approximately 15 homeless veterans a month.
The money raised will be used to assist homeless veterans and veterans in the Kernan's Heroes Program. Established in 2012, Kernan’s Heroes was named in honor of Indiana Governor and South Bend Mayor Joe Kernan. Kernan served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. In 1972, his reconnaissance aircraft was shot down, and he spent 11 months as a prisoner of war. Because of the many struggles veterans face once they return from duty, such programs have been created to address the individual needs of veterans. Kernan’s Heroes was created for veterans in our area. Kernan’s Heroes provides specialized treatment sessions to address the individual needs of veterans. The Veterans Group provides specialized treatment sessions to address their individual needs. This provides each veteran with the opportunity to share their personal experience with other veterans, strengthen peer support, resurrect military bonding (offers a unique support system to enhance recovery), and sessions are facilitated by staff who are also veterans. Currently, Kernan’s Heroes serves 15 homeless veterans a month. Overall, Kernan’s Heroes have served over 250 veterans within the local area over the last few years.
Life Treatment Centers hosts several fundraiser to generate funds to assist those in need of treatment. These events include the Taste of Michiana, Kernan's Heroes Ride, Eagle Lake Triathlon, and Joe Kernan vs Joe Donnelly Basketball Extravaganza. We realize that it is difficult as a small organization to do this alone so we look forward to community organizations partnering with us as we continue to restore lives within our community.
