Preservation of The Res, Inc.
of Matching Funds Remaining
Where Recreation and Education Meet Nature is our slogan. The Res is dedicated to the preservation of a natural place, where outdoor education and recreation work side-by-side to establish an outdoor ethic in our community, especially among our youth. We provide camping facilities for youth groups and scouts where they can earn badges and do their Eagle Scout projects. The Mishawaka YMCA uses the grounds and buildings for 9 weeks in the summer for their day camp. Mishawaka School students spend a couple days for environmental studies in the spring. This natural place provides a beautiful setting for weddings, reunions, showers, meetings, etc. People in the community come to the Res to just walk our trails to enjoy the meandering stream, foliage, birds, and wildlife. The grounds provide beautiful scenery for photographs. The Res provides an inspirational place within an urban area for people to enjoy the love of nature for years to come.
Our outdoor restroom facility is in definite need of upgrading. The building is at least 40 years old and needs to be modernized with new sinks and toilets. The tractor bridge needs to be replaced so we have a safer way to cross the creek with the tractor. Lastly, the Ranger cabin is in need of new flooring throughout, appliances, and minor updates.
The additional revenue will be used for ongoing operating expenses, upgrades to the buildings, and replacing equipment as needed. This is the 41st anniversary year from the time that The Res was bought from the Boy Scouts. Many of our buildings are much older than that and have never really been refurbished. We would like to make sure that we have the means to keep The Res in great working order for many years to come and the yearly endowment benefit we get will really help us do that. In addition to facilities, some of the funding will be used to enhance the educational programs for local schools.
