At Reins of Life we are making a difference! Our mission is to improve quality of life for children and adults with disabilities through equine-assisted therapy. Our vision is to promote the mental, physical, emotional, and social growth of all involved in the program; educate the community regarding the benefits of riding as therapy and the abilities of children and adults with disabilities; improve the attitudes of society toward persons with disabilities.
We are the only PATH accredited organization in St. Joseph, La Porte and Porter counties that provides equine assisted-activities. Every week we serve over one hundred riders who have limited options available to them. We accomplish that with the help of fourteen dedicated staff members, 36 horses, 300 amazing volunteers and many supporters. In 2016 we provided 3,000 lesson hours. Riders are as young as two years old with no upper age limit. We accept riders with mild to severe physical, emotional, cognitive, and social disabilities.
"After having a brain tumor, surgery to remove it, radiation, and numerous therapies, my daughter had no self-confidence. Reins of Life has given her that back. I don't think any doctor or nurse could have given that to her. Reins works!"
-Katie R., Mother of Rider
"It is one big family that makes a difference for many. I support Reins because of the people that this organization brings together."
-Duke D., Longtime Supporter
